The Central Karoo regional secretary of the ANC was shot in Beaufort West on Sunday morning, the party said.
Head of the Parliamentary constituency office of the ANC in Beaufort West, Trudy Dijana, said Windy Plaatjies was shot in a township in the early hours of the morning.
More information on the shooting was not immediately available.
Police said they would be able to provide information later in the day.
Dijana, who is also Western Cape MPL said Plaatjies was in a stable condition and was sedated. He was being transported to a hospital in George.
She condemned the shooting and urged anyone with information to approach the police.
