ANC boasts about failed government

It is astonishing that the ruling ANC party can be so pleased with a budget framework which actually proves that the country finds itself in a serious financial predicament and is, thus, basically a failed state.

One cannot help but wonder whether the millions of South Africans who are unemployed and desperate and who have to put up with failed municipalities share in the ANC’s happiness about the current situation in the country.

A responsible government would have admitted that there are problems, it would not have pretended that all is well.

The government has said many times over that it will not let the workers of South Africa, and particularly the employees of the SAA, down. And yet it is precisely the ANC that has been letting these workers down for the last 26 years.

The government is quite right in saying that it was greedy individuals who looted the SAA. What it failed to add, however, is that the greed was born in the heart of the ANC and that it was acted on by cadres of the ruling party. ANC cadres like Dudu Myeni who is, among other things, responsible for mismanaging the SAA and the party’s own Secretary-general, Ace Magashule, who allowed and committed extensive corruption while he was the Premier of the Free State.

Tragically, the past is increasingly being blamed for the government’s own failures. Rhetoric, like white privilege, no longer carries any weight after 26 years.

The past is not to blame for the R5 billion that was taken away from the police in the adjustment budget while crime is a crisis in the country and the R6,8 billion that was subsequently allocated to public enterprises.

Furthermore, R245 million was taken away from municipal infrastructure while water sources are being polluted any many places do not even have access to water anymore. And then R376 is taken away from health, but R555 million is allocated to sport. This is indicative of irrational and misguided priorities.

And the fact that the ANC is proud to table such a disastrous budget just goes to show how far off its moral compass really is
