AfriForum has just received confirmation that the period for the submission of commentary on the National Health Insurance (NHI) bill has been extended to 29 November 2019. The initial closing date was 11 October 2019, as AfriForum’s statement earlier mentioned on 1 October 2019.

“The fact that the closing date for the submission of commentary on the NHI is once again postponed is a telling sign that the Department of Health is not yet ready to launch a project of this magnitude, and that it is doomed to failure. Its implementation can lead to a total collapse of South Africa’s healthcare system, especially given the poor results of the NHI’s pilot projects,” says Natasha Venter, AfriForum’s Spokesperson on NHI.

AfriForum submitted its commentary at the Houses of Parliament last month. The public can still submit AfriForum’s comments to the Portfolio Committee for Health by visiting here
