The newly appointed police intelligence officer, Pat Mokushane, has a criminal record and allegedly runs his private companies from his office, apparently without the permission of the police.
Furthermore, it is alleged that he had a relationship with an unsuitable woman.
In 2002, he was found guilty of a violation of the National Road Traffic Act, and in 1993 he was arrested for possession of stolen goods. However, it is not certain if he was charged and convicted of this.
Apparently, Mohushane did not receive the security clearance needed to perform this work.
However, he is not the only officer with a suspicious past because as early as 2013, the Civil Secretariat of Police announced that 1 448 police officers have criminal records ranging from murder, rape, and corruption, while still serving in the SAPS. Several former police commissioners also count among them.
