ABSA-SARB saga distractor of Public Protector’s state capture report

Die Vryburger

The ABSA-SARB saga about the aid package from the Reserve Bank to ABSA is a smokescreen to divert attention from the state capture report of the Public Protector. According to the Public Protector’s report, the president should establish a commission of inquiry into state capture. It is significant that the ANC is now pushing for a commission of inquiry into apartheid’s plunder of the State Treasury.

It is clear that the ANC have realized that there will be no escape from a commission of inquiry as the Public Protector recommended and to create a balance are actually saying that the apartheid government is also a victim of state capture.

This approach of the ANC is confirmed by the timing of the leak of the report on ABSA and the Reserve Bank. Why after 22 years is there suddenly a request for a commission of inquiry into the former presidents and ministers when the ANC was aware of this aid package and the Ciax report?

Cosatu is abusing the situation with renewed calls for the Reserve Bank to be nationalized. Nationalization will harm investor confidence and adversely affect the economy.

“What should be done is for President Zuma to appoint the commission as recommended by the Public Protector and not turn to the courts to delay the process,” said Dr. Pieter Groenewald, leader of the Freedom Front Plus.
