A retired advocate, Tom Sawyer (63) was murdered on his farm Oudehoutdraai, near Greylingstad on November 2, 2014. His body was found by his friend, Wynand Ambrosius.
Sawyers workers found the gate still locked when they turned up for work on Monday and could see that Sawyers bedroom window was broken. They contacted Ambrosius and he called the police.
Ambrosius had to grind of the lock on the gate to get entrance to the house. The police found Sawyers body with his hands tied behind his back and several gunshot wounds in his upper body.
They found a flat piece of timber next to his body – he was probably attacked with it. Marks around his neck indicated that he was strangled.
Safes in the room were broken into and firearms were probably stolen.
Nothing else is missing from the house. His vehicles were where Sawyer left them.
