7 armed robbers attack couple on farm in Elandskraal

A 57-year-old man is in a critical condition after he and his 68-year-old wife were attacked by seven armed robbers Friday October 30, 2015, on a farm in the Elandskraal area near Mooinooi, outside Rustenburg.

Capt. Paul Ramaloko, police spokesperson, told Maroela Media the couple was attacked when they stopped at their home about 18:30 after arriving from a store. The woman sustained severe bruises as she was dragged and tied by the attackers.

The man was shot in the stomach and leg and was in a critical condition in hospital. The robbers fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, jewelry, the woman’s handbag and two vehicles. One of the vehicles was later found abandoned in Marikana.

Ramaloko could not confirm the couple’s names, but they were identified on social media as Daan Venter and his wife. A case of armed robbery is being investigated.

Maroela Media learned that two attacks took place on Friday in the same area.

A third couple was also seriously injured when they were allegedly attacked at about 22:00 in their home at Dinie Estates in Rustenburg and assaulted with a machete. The man was fired in his foot.
