A four-year-old child was found hanging from a tree after she was raped in Waterloo, Verulam.
Reaction Unit South Africa’s control centre received several calls from residents in the area requesting assistance for the child that was severely injured. Reaction officers and paramedics responded to the scene and found the child bleeding profusely. Paramedics treated the visibly shaken child, who stated that the suspect was known to her.
It is alleged that the child’s granny left their home on August 29, 2015 at approximately 05:30 to visit someone in the area. The suspect then gained entry to the home through an unlocked door and kidnapped the sleeping child who was alone at the residence. The suspect then led her to a bush were he raped her. After he was done, he tore a piece of material from the child’s blanket and attempted to hang her from a tree.
By this time the child’s granny had returned home and realised that the four-year-old was missing. She launched a search party and found the child hanging from the tree and still alive. The suspect then fled further into the bush after he noticed the granny approaching.
A large crowd gathered at the scene. The community members have threatened to kill the suspect if he was found. A man hunt is currently underway to search of the suspect who is believed to be hiding in the bush.
