A minibus taxi driver and passenger were shot and injured on the on-ramp to the M4 north in Jacobs on Friday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.
Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said police are currently at the scene on the Quality Street bridge.
“It is alleged that the suspects fled the scene in a white VW Golf 6. Police are investigating a case of attempted murder and the condition of the injured victims is unknown. The motive of the shooting is unknown and no arrest has been made at this stage,” Zwane said.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found that the driver of the taxi had sustained serious injuries while the passenger was grazed by a bullet.
“The driver was seriously injured,” he said.
This is the second taxi shooting in Durban this week – three people were shot dead at the Brook Street taxi rank shoot-out on Wednesday, among them a security guard who was on his way home.
Three others were injured in the shoot-out at the Port Shepstone taxi.
It is suspected that the shooting is related to a dispute between Port Shepstone’s Zamokuhle Long Distance Taxi Association and rival operator, the Sonke Long Distance Taxi Association.
Police have made 24 arrests and suspects are expected to appear in court on Friday.
