16 year old smash and grabber shot dead: woman to be arrested?

Western Cape police on Tuesday declined to say whether a woman who allegedly shot dead a smash-and-grabber in Bonteheuwel, would be arrested.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk would only confirm the incident and that criminal cases have been opened.

“The investigation is ongoing,” he said.

A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed at the corners of Jakes Gerwel Drive and Bluegum Street in Bonteheuwel on Monday afternoon.

According to the City of Cape Town’s Metro Police, who attended the scene along with SAPS, the teenager had smashed a motorist’s car window and the woman driver shot him at 14:10.

She then drove to the Bishop Lavis police station, where Metro officers found her at 15:25.

Deputy Chief Yolande Faro said the motorist had been “extremely shocked and traumatised” and was given trauma counselling.

This stretch of Jakes Gerwel Drive is a known smash-and-grab hotspot.

Police are investigating murder and robbery cases.
