In only eleven months, SA Rural Security has recorded 272 rural security incidents. From January 2016 until November this year the incidents noted are based on news reports, social media and tracking security groups operating in rural areas. These incidents are only the tip of the iceberg, police statistics are expected to be far greater than the 272 cases recorded.

Armed robberies (Farm attacks) topped the list with a whopping 126 cases, and the Gauteng province recorded the highest amount of attacks, followed by North West province.

53 murders (not deaths) whereby suspects killed victims during this review period and the larger amount of these crimes were committed in the Gauteng Province.

75 victims survived a brutal killing as the attempted murder statistics indicated. The North West province recorded 21 incidents of attempted murder. The other provinces are all affected by the vicious attacks against farmers in varying degrees.

Break-ins totaled 14 during this period and again North West appears to be a highly targeted. These break-ins are incidents where firearms and other valuables were stolen.

The lowest ranking crimes logged are rape and abduction, only two cases in each category were reported. These two crimes were part of a home invasion. Again, North West province is recorded as a dangerous place.

It is clearly an alarming indication of how farmers in particularly are targeted by dangerous and armed criminals. Not only are the attacks, murders, and attempted murders brutal and horrific, it is alarming to note that armed robberies are the intention of criminally minded thugs who are ruthless and cause as much damage as possible. Nevertheless, the thought of rape and abduction is a scary reality that is happening and can increase drastically.

Farmers work hard to provide food for the nation, yet, these irresponsible criminals continue an agenda of brutality and genocide of the minority.
