Online mulitmedia platform set to be a game changer in the CSI news space

Within the South African context, corporate social investment has a pivotal role to play in bringing about meaningful transformation to the benefit of all.  The social needs facing our country are substantial and it is a moral duty for big business to make a difference by supporting projects that benefit historically disadvantaged sectors of our society.

It is against this background, and guided by the key social development needs, that Social TV, a multimedia news channel was launched 2 years ago in order to expose and reflect on the social and enterprise developments.

According to Trialogue report, corporate social expenditure in South Africa is estimated at R8,1 billion for the year 2015, yet little or none reportage or coverage was done on mainstream media.

Most media platforms are doing little to feature CSI programs because they are not considerd news worthy, however it’s an industry that impact people’s lives and communities.

Social TV is the first online media channel to exclusively focus on CSI and sustainable development initiatives in the form of video and written stories.

The news channel steps in to bridge that gap, creating a platform for companies and also giving a voice to charity organisations that needs funding. In addition the news channel seeks to empower young people with journalism, video, production and social media skills.

“Social TV overall ambition is to maintain the relevance of the CSI programs to the society and how they impact on communities. The news channel envisages a situation where more businesses will begin to appreciate the impact that CSI initiative can have on their businesses”, says Daine Naidoo, Social TV, CSI consultant.

The advantages of CSI are numerous; every business should be encouraged to take advantage of the benefits whilst every business irrespective of size begins to make a meaningful contribution to the betterment of the local community and the larger society in which it operates.

www.social-tv.co.za features stories in the following segments: Health and Welfare, Education and Training, Greening and Environment, Sports, Arts and Events which are mostly video content. We also have a magazine CSI show called The Social Show which wrapps most of our stories in a visually appealing manner”, concludes Sithandile Mpofu, the Editor of Social TV.
