Introducing The Great Pillow Fight
The Great Pillow Fight is a mass, organised pillow fight taking place on 12 November 2016 at the College of Cape Town’s Crawford Campus Sports Field.

The Great Pillow Fight is a mass, organised pillow fight taking place on 12 November 2016 at the College of Cape Town’s Crawford Campus Sports Field. A day packed with fun for the entire family, The Great Pillow Fight aims to bring over 4000 people together to take part in the excitement – and hopefully break the pillow fighting world record!

The event will see carnival activities and children’s group games, competitions and giveaways, live entertainment and gourmet food offerings – plus special guest Jimmy Nevis will perform 7764 on his home turf. The event is hosted and organised by SALA Foundations.

But beyond the plethora of amusement, The Great Pillow Fight has a much nobler cause: raising R250 000 for five worthy non-profit organisations in the Cape Town Surrounds. One of the NPOs – Deeds of Love Ministries – has a number of social upliftment initiatives on the go across the country. The other charities are uThando LeNkosi and Gift of Hope, both safe houses for children who need a home away from abusive and dangerous situations, Compassion in Action, an NPO offering home-based health care to the elderly who cannot afford private nursing, and the Mary-Beth Centre, a safe haven situated in Paarl that helps ill-treated women and children out of problematic family situations. The Great Pillow Fight will also be donating 10% of the ticket proceeds to the Blue Collar Foundation that was set up by Jimmy Nevis to assist with educational bursaries for youth in disadvantaged communities.

The Great Pillow Fight has a vision to create change in the lives of youth around Cape Town, not only through the charities we support, but also in the people who attend the event. We want to inspire the next generation and raise awareness of the social plights in their communities. We want to show them that giving of their time and finances can help make a tangible difference – and the process can be pretty fun, too, especially if a pillow fight is involved.

In the month of October leading up to the campaign, The Great Pillow Fight has launched a crowdfunding initiative to raise final funds for the event. We are in need of sponsors, vendors, volunteers and most importantly donations for pillows and t-shirts for the event.
