Cape Town women take back their power as DefendHer returns for 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children.
The second self – defence workshop led by Krav Maga instructor Frank Lebert takes place on 28 November in Bree Street.
Just over a year after South Africa declared gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) a national disaster, Cape Town women are learning to protect themselves.
DefendHer, a hands-on 90-minute self-defence workshop returns for the second time on 28 November on the rooftop of Light House Holistic in Cape Town City Centre.
DefendHER was created by Cape Town entrepreneur Bongiwe Mosele-Magampa to empower women and give them the confidence and practical skills to defend themselves. The message changes the narrative from victim to survivor, learning how to fight back and DefendHER!

The workshop is led by IKMF-certified, Krav Maga instructor Frank Lebert who trains both civilians and law enforcement. Krav Maga was built for real-world danger. It’s fast, practical and designed to work under pressure, regardless of size or strength.
Attendees will learn to:
- Recognise warning signs and avoid danger
- Use their voice as a deterrent
- Break free from common holds using hands-on techniques practiced in real life real-life scenarios
“South African women don’t feel safe walking to their cars, getting home at night, or sometimes even in their own homes”. says Bongi Mosele-Magampa. “We can’t wait for someone else to fix this. DefendHer brings us together to honour survivors, amplify our voices and take action. Protecting women is everyone’s responsibility, and this is how we are doing our part.“
After the session, participants can connect over a post-workout drink with rooftop views of the city. Each attendee receives a goodie bag and the chance to win a Black Rose Concepts gift box.
The workshop is open to all ages and fitness levels (ages 16 and older). No experience, special clothing or equipment is required. Only an exercise mat, a water bottle, and fighting spirit. Tickets cost R450 from Quicket and includes a goodie bag and drink. Spaces are limited.
