4 reasons why a getaway is good for your relationship

A recent study undertaken by One Poll, an international market research agency, revealed that 42% of the 2000 respondents surveyed had fallen back in love with their partner after going away on holiday together. 77% acknowledged that holidays are an ideal way to keep the spark alive in their relationships, with 75% believing that holiday time with your loved one results in feelings of rejuvenation. 79% agreed that travelling with someone special is a great way to strengthen bonds.

There’s no better way to reconnect with your partner during February (the month of love) than by booking a romantic getaway, says Shaun Lamont, Managing Director, First Group Hotels and Resorts. The frenetic pace of our modern world and the accompanying stress that comes from having to juggle our jobs, family responsibilities and the general demands of daily living can make it very difficult for couples to maintain the romance. “Many of us are so exhausted by the end of a long work week, that by the time the weekend arrives, we have very little energy left in our tanks. We tend to simply want to chill and catch our breath before Monday comes around again. That’s why it’s so important to intentionally, and regularly, make time for meaningful connections with your significant other. And Valentine’s Day provides the perfect opportunity to do just that.”

Here are four great reasons why you should book a getaway this Valentine’s Day:

1. Allows you to reconnect: Spending time away from your regular surroundings and routine, without any distractions, makes connecting 1-on-1 so much easier to do.

2. Ignites intimacy: There’s nothing quite like a getaway in gorgeous surroundings, indulging in shared activities that you both love but seldom have time for, and wining and dining or ordering room service to get you in the mood for romance.

3. Share new experiences and create memories: Creating magical new and lasting memories is what holidays are all about, and when it’s a romantic trip for two, the magic and intimacy shared will linger way after the getaway.

4. Strengthens your relationship: Even if just for a few days, spending alone time together, chatting, laughing and rediscovering the joy of each other’s company, makes for some truly epic bonding time.

When planning your romantic rendezvous, Shaun shares a few tips to ensure that your getaway will hit the right spot:

  • Unplug: Leave your laptop at home and stay off your phone and social media, opt instead to be present and give your partner your undivided attention.
  • Unwind: Choose a destination that is quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of the city where you can totally relax and unwind in each other’s company.
  • Unexpected: Surprise and delight your significant other with unexpected romance. If you are staying at a hotel or resort, phone ahead and ask them to put chilled champagne in the room and rose petals on the bed. All First Group Hotels and Resorts offer honeymoon suites, and – you guessed it – they’re not just for honeymooners.
  • Undress: Pack light but make sure you pack great lingerie.

Shaun concludes, “Making lasting, magical memories is what gives life meaning, and can revitalize relationships when those memories are made with someone special.”
