There are a lot of things in life that we can’t control – our mindset does not fall into that category. Far too many people accept their negative thoughts as a part of who they are and as a function of “being” that they just have to endure, BUT this could not be further from the truth. Jacqueline van Rooijen, a Personal Transformation Coach, shares her secret to becoming a master of ‘mind control’ and thereby, designing your life on purpose, with purpose.
Switch on the lights:
The first step in becoming a master of ‘mind control’ is to realize that YOU CAN! Most of us assume we have no control over our thoughts which is totally false. Number one, we aren’t the thoughts we think – often we associate our identities with the narratives playing in our mind on autopilot BUT we are not our thoughts, and we are not powerless over them either. Becoming aware of these simple facts is half the battle when it comes to ‘mind control’.
Nothing is rent-free:
Once we realize that we have power over our thoughts, we can draw a line in the sand against all the destructive ones and start cleaning up our negative thinking. Becoming aware of the story that’s playing on repeat in your mind and challenging pessimistic or downright harmful thoughts will allow you to start disconnecting from the emotions that they tend to stir up. Become ruthless in your stance against negative self-talk, and don’t allow even one defeatist thought to live rent-free in your mind – kick it to the kerb!
Carefully select your thoughts:
This is the fun part. When you come to the realization that you have power over your thoughts and start de-cluttering your thinking, you are then able to carefully select your thoughts and change your perspective to one that embraces the positive. What kind of life do you want to live, how do you want to feel, and which values do you want to be guided by? All of these things are manifestations of your thoughts so decide which ones you want to take hold of and play them on repeat. The more you think these new chosen beliefs and attitudes, the quicker they will become your new default narrative, replacing the detrimental one completely.
When you step into the space of designing your life on purpose, with purpose, you take back control from an existence on auto-pilot where you just happen through life. “Becoming a master at ‘mind control’ is something that anyone can do and it will change every single aspect of your life 100% for the better,” concludes Jacqui.
