After months of worry over the coronavirus, South Africa is making headway against Covid-19 and there’s no better way to celebrate than enjoying outdoor activities. Enjoy in the sun with these hot-ticket items.

Johannesburg, President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement to take the country to lockdown alert level 2 could not have come at a better time.

With spring now upon us, South Africans can look forward to warmer days and spending more time outdoors with friends and family.

There is further cause for celebration as the arrival of the season coincides with some great sporting events like the Rugby Championship and the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, so there really is no excuse for not inviting friends over to watch the game and enjoy a braai, particularly since liquor outlets are now once more open from Monday to Friday.

South Africa’s vaccination programme is also gaining momentum, with more than 7-million people now inoculated and incentives like vaccination passports that will allow access to public events expected to swell that number exponentially. The dream of achieving herd immunity against Covid-19 is drawing closer.

In this spirit of hope and renewal, many South Africans will want to give their outdoor entertainment areas and braai stations a makeover since many days will be spent here in the weeks and months ahead. That means people will need to look for the best deals early, as items will sell out quickly.

No better deals can be found than in the online space – and South Africans know it.

The arrival of the pandemic in 2020 grew online consumerism in ways not even the most liberal commentators would have imagined.

Online Retail in South Africa 2021, a study conducted by World Wide Worx with the support of Mastercard, Standard Bank and Platinum Seed, showed that the total growth for online retail in South Africa in 2020 came to 66%, bringing the total of online retail in South Africa to R30,2-billion.

“The most astonishing aspect of this total is that it is more than double the R14,1-billion reached in 2018, in just two years,” World Wide Worx MD Arthur Goldstuck says of the report

South Africans are now very much in the habit of the digital economy, so lifestyle purchases to make this spring and summer ones to remember will almost certainly be made in the online space as well.

Internet auction and online marketplace bidorbuy has identified a number of hot-ticket items on its platform that South Africa’s sun worshippers and braai lovers should not be without this season.

“But remember,” says bidorbuy CEO Craig Lubbe, “these are hot commodities in more ways than one, so shop early if you don’t want to miss out.”
