Ditch the clothes to feed the pups this winter!

More than a year of lockdown measures has resulted in an economic pinch for many South African non-profit organisations (NPOs) who rely on the generosity of the community to perform their lifesaving work. To keep operational, 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue on the KZN South Coast is calling on the community to donate any quality clothing they’re not using for re-sale in its Tale End Charity Shop in Scottburgh.

“We’ve found that the fastest way to generate an income is through the sale of second-hand items, particularly clothing at our charity shops,” explained Nicky Koekemoer of 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue. “This is why we’re sending out an appeal to the public to go through their cupboards and find any unused items that are still in good condition, but not needed anymore. And if there’s anything sitting around the home that’s unwanted but could be of value to someone else, please consider donating to our store. The profits from these sales will go towards feeding our lovely rescue dogs and cats, as well as our ongoing sterilisation programme and medical care.”

4 Paws and a Tale Rescue is a Scottburgh-based animal care NPO that feeds, shelters and provides medical care for stray animals. At any given time, 4 Paws is caring for around 200 township dogs and cats, and 39 dogs currently on the 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue farm. The feeding programme, which is carried out every second day, requires more than 50kgs of dried food. The team of volunteers is committed to preventing the abuse of animals, and work to re-home rescued dogs and cats to loving homes around KwaZulu-Natal.

Donations can be dropped off at the Seadoone Vet at 76 School Road in Amanzimtoti or at Tale End Charity Shop in Thira Village just off the Main Road, 142 Scott Street, in Scottburgh. Opening times are 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 12pm every Saturday.

In addition to donations, 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue is calling for the assistance of KZN South Coast residents willing to foster dogs who are still looking for their forever homes. Foster parents will need a well-secured property to keep the loving pets safe.

Nicky explained: “Fostering takes a special amount of love as most of these animals have had a hard life and are not your average house pet, but this is an opportunity to get this dog ready so that she or he can fit into a loving forever home. This might take quite a while so you have to be sure this is for you.”
