The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and the Mpungose Traditional Authority joined forces from 24 to 26 October 2025 at the Nkume Sportsgrounds in KwaMpungose, Eshowe, for a three-day community outreach initiative focused on building resilient, safe communities and inspiring local youth through career opportunities.
The initiative was designed to strengthen relationships between traditional leadership, the military, and the community, while promoting education, health awareness, safety, and youth empowerment.
The programme began on Friday, 24 October, with an informative Career Expo attended by learners from local primary and high schools. The learners had the opportunity to explore diverse career paths and enjoyed live demonstrations and presentations. On-site medical and social work screenings added a practical and engaging dimension to the day.
That evening, a formal gala dinner was held at The Aloe Lifestyle Hotel to honour the collaboration between traditional leaders and military representatives.
On Saturday, 25 October, a community day was held, bringing together residents and members of the South African Army, Navy, and SAMHS for a day of interaction, learning, and community-building.
The outreach concluded on Sunday, 26 October, with a Grand Parade Ceremony featuring a cultural display by the ibutho (regiment) of KwaMpungose, Eshowe. Inkosi Thandisizwe Mpungose delivered a word of thanks and closing address, acknowledging all who contributed to the success of the event.
“This programme was a powerful demonstration of what can be achieved when we work together for the good of our people,” said Inkosi Thandisizwe Mpungose, Leader of the Mpungose Traditional Authority, Eshowe. “By uniting the efforts of traditional leadership, the military, and the community, we are empowering our people through knowledge, opportunity, and collaboration.”
The outreach programme was a collaborative success, leaving a lasting impact on learners, families, and the broader KwaMpungose community.
