What Parents Need to Know About CBD

CBD is commonly available now, and its super-trendy. It’s being put into everything from bath and beauty products to gummies. Users say that it helps them feel more relaxed, eases pain, and has virtually no side effects. It was only a matter of time before we started using it on our kids.

In this post, we’re going to give you the facts about CBD to enable you to make an informed decision.

Is It Safe for Kids to Use?

It’s not something that is widely advertised, but medical marijuana has been used to treat epilepsy in children and adults for some time now. There’s even a drug that has been approved by the FDA for those as young as two years old.

This approval indicates that marijuana is being taken seriously as a medicinal herb. As a parent, though, I want to be absolutely sure that what I’m giving my kids is good for them. The good news is that high-quality CBD oil has only mild side effects if any. You can always ask your family doctor and learn more about potential benefits of CBD oil for kids.

How Do I Know Which Products Are Safe?

The bad news is that not CBD oil on the market is high-quality. If you decide to give your child CBD oil, you’ll want to do some serious research into any supplier you’re considering. Find out:

  • If they’re a well-established company: I’m not saying that well-established companies don’t fiddle the figures. They do have a reputation to worry about, though. There are some fly-by-night operators out there, and, when things get hot, they just set up under a different name. Watch out for lesser-known companies.
  • If they have a recent certificate of analysis: Companies who have taken their product to an independent lab and had it tested will have a certificate of analysis. A reputable supplier will have this published on their website or available on request.
  • Exactly what you’re getting: Some products contain such a low concentration of the active ingredient that they’re not going to do anything for you. Understand how much you’re getting in each dose.
  • What reviewers have to say: CBD doesn’t work for everyone, so all companies will get some negative reviews. If there are a lot of negative reviews, though, steer clear.

Would My Child Benefit?

There are a lot of claims being made about these products. Claims that it can cure cancer have not been substantiated. Claims that it can help with the pain and anxiety related to the condition have. The truth is that there’s no way to know for sure at this stage.

These products don’t have psychoactive ingredients or very serious side effects. That puts them ahead of prescription meds. We do have to warn, though, that no one knows what the long-term effects are—but then, the same can be said about a lot of prescription medications too.

So, Can I Give My Kids CBD?

That’s not a question that we can answer for you. At the moment, the prognosis looks good, though. If your doctor is telling you to use medication to manage anxiety or pain anxiety, it’s something to think about. CBD is considered generally safe.

Remember to choose a good supplier and start with the lowest recommended dose based on the size of your child. Also, look into other ways to help your child cope with pain or stress. Therapy and life skills training are an excellent adjunct to CBD and can get to the root of the core issue.

If your child is two years old or younger, you shouldn’t be giving them CBD. It’s also not a good idea to use it as a prophylactic measure if your child is healthy. If they have immune issues or aren’t really thriving, then it might be considered.

With careful use and proper dosing, CBD oil could prove extremely valuable in helping to restore your child to health.
