Waxing is the hero of all hair removal methods. Warm wax is applied to the skin and sticks to the hair. WAXITologists then use the wax to pull the hair from the root – removing the entire hair from the follicle.
Regardless of whether you’re a first-timer or even a seasoned client, when it comes to waxing, you’re guaranteed to have some questions.
With so many conflicting dos and don’ts for waxing, it can be hard to sift through to find the facts.
To get to the truth about waxing, we reached out to Michelle Bittkau, Marketing Manager of WAXIT SA.
“The WAXIT team were brought together as a result of the search for the best wax service. We were looking for the perfect combination of high quality products, quick service, good prices and easy bookings – without waiting over a week for an appointment. We could never find anyone who could accommodate us at the last minute. And when we could find someone who could help, they were often scary strangers in questionable cubicles – where the waxes were of such a low quality that we would leave layers of skin behind. We realised that we had the solution to the problem: And that’s when WAXIT was born!” says Michelle Bittkau.
After opening their first store in Lonehill in July 2015, Michelle Royston and her team grew the company and its high recognisable brand image to new heights, with more than 8 stores to date.
“We are masters of sleek and silky, and we focus only on fuzz. No manicures, pedicures or facials, just high-quality waxing. When it comes to our craft, only the best will do. Our master WAXITologists® use our very own exclusive, hypoallergenic wax – designed and manufactured locally. We are proudly South African – so any way we can throw our support behind local businesses, we will. We set out to develop our own wax so that we could continue to bring affordable waxing to our clients, we also wanted to ensure that our clients walk out feeling super smooth and without having any reactions to waxing,” says Michelle.
Here’s what Michelle Bittkau of WAXIT had to share about waxing and everything you’ve wanted to know but have been too afraid to ask.
WAXING FACT 1:
If you consistently wax every month, your hair will grow back softer and finer over time – YES, this is 100% true ladies and gents!
WAXING FACT 2:
The more you wax, the less it hurts… seriously! Continuous waxing lessens the amount of hair you have, so waxing will get less painful every time.
WAXING FACT 3:
You need to make your WAXITologist aware of the medications that you are using. Some medications increase the rate at which your skin exfoliates so waxing can remove your skin as well as your hair. Some medications also tend to make your hair thicker and darker.
WAXING FACT 4:
Some people struggle with ingrown hairs after any hair removal treatment. We suggest exfoliating twice a week (24 hours after waxing) to ensure that the new hairs can break the barrier of the skin.
WAXING FACT 5:
The pores of your skin are open for 24 hours after waxing. To ensure that you don’t irritate your skin, don’t apply any products the your recently waxed area, and don’t get involved in any physical activities that will make you sweat such as exercising or tanning.
With stores in Ballito, Boksburg, Broadacres, Douglasdale, Kyalami, Lonehill, Menlyn and Southdowns, it’s no wonder the brand is growing from strength to strength!
Whether it’s low-rise jeans, itsy bitsy bikinis or button downs, WAXIT makes sure you achieve your best look – smooth.
