New Year's Eve at The Marine is a gourmet’s dream

If your New Year’s Resolution for 2021 is to enjoy life to the full, then start early, with a foodie experience at The Marine hotel in Hermanus. Dine-in gourmet style with a five-star, six-course menu that pays homage to the good things in life!

Launch your perfect introduction to 2021with pre-dinner drinks and canapés. These cocktail snacks include spicy corn and spinach fritters with coriander yoghurt; a black bean burrito with sprouts and tomato; gratinated black mussels with Parmesan cheese; and a creamy mushroom and chicken phyllo basket. For vegetarians, the savoury phyllo baskets will be laden with mushrooms only.

To start, there’s a honeybush poached pear with candied walnuts, gorgonzola and wholegrain mustard. Here, the sharpness of the creamy, veined cheese and the spicy mustard balance the sweetness of the pear and nuts.

To follow there’s a baked Franschhoek salmon trout. Vegetarians will enjoy warm camembert cheese in lieu of the trout. Both dishes are topped with a pistachio crumb and served with a fennel and Granny Smith apple chutney, and wasabi and avocado purée.

For main course, meat lovers will be served a biltong-crusted springbok loin with butternut squash purée, wild mushrooms, potato rösti, asparagus, and red wine jus. Vegetarians will enjoy a baked whole cauliflower Wellington with the same accompaniments as the loin.

Dessert takes the form of a decadent mini rum baba cake with a lemon posset and citrus gel. Or, there’s a passion fruit, milk chocolate and cardamom gateau that comes with granadilla sherbet, ginger pâte de fruit, and fynbos honeycomb.

Coffee or tea and friandises conclude this artfully composed meal.

The cost is R1 100 per person for the standard menu and R985 per person for the vegetarian menu. Booking is essential.
