Browns Foods is a South African company dedicated to creating memories through food. The company is evoking nostalgia throughout South Africa, be it through childhood memories of buying corndogs at a food truck or watching American movies where corndogs feature at a family gathering. The idea of introducing corndogs to South Africans came about after businesswoman and devoted mom Mabel Akinlabi who is also the CEO of Browns Foods made corndogs for her child’s birthday party. Little did she know that a year later she would be selling in Africa’s largest retail stores.

Whether you have memories of corndogs or have never heard of them before, Browns Foods promises without a doubt the most scrumptious and tasty golden corn meal coated sausage on a stick. Corndogs to many south Africans are known as an American cuisine, many when asked where they have heard of or seen corndogs, the answer is “American movies”. The simplest yet tantalizing way to describe the corn dog is that it’s crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It is a savoury chicken vienna sausage coated in a cornmeal batter and deep fried to perfection.

Corndogs are best enjoyed when one smothers the golden crispy exterior in a dip, be it mustard, tomato sauce or a dip of your own preference. It is the golden brown crispy flavourful cornmeal batter, the juicy sausage and the fact that it comes on a stick that made it a favourite at Mabel Akinlabi’s child’s birthday party. They were such a great hit with the children that it prompted Mabel to further develop the concept which is fast becoming a delicacy in the Mzansi food chain. Corndogs have become every parents favourite choice when looking for fast delicious lunches and snacks making them the perfect option for filling young tummies and the tummies of those young at heart.

Akinlabi did not hesitate on involving experts and turned the birthday party snack idea into a fully-fledged business. “I saw how my children and their friends lit up when eating this meaty adventure on a stick so it made perfect sense to introduce it to all South Africans. Corndogs are essentially food that satisfies you from the very first bite and can be prepared in just under two minutes. We conducted many trials that included food scientists before we concluded our corndog recipe. We wanted to be certain that our recipe would appeal to the South African pallet. We conducted thorough research, from the type of wood to use, to the stick, to the flavour profile that South Africa would love after which we came to the conclusion that three delicious variants “Awesome original, Creamy cheese and Jalapeno cheese would be popular among South Africans and our sales figures have proven that we were spot on”, says Mabel Akinlabi, CEO of Browns Foods.

Browns corndogs are fully prepared and need no further cooking however, they can be re-deep-fried, oven baked or microwaved. The product is perfectly delicious served at room temperature too.
Browns corndogs are Halaal and made of 100 % of chicken meat. Browns Foods promises that their tagline #tastetoy will come true with every bite.

Consumers can either purchase a pack of four or eight from the freezer, a deli or wholesale pack which contains 96 units. Browns Foods corndogs are available at Checkers and selected Spar stores in Northern regions of South Africa and will be available in Pick n Pay stores soon.
