November 6th, 2026 – Johannesburg, South Africa – Rap-pop sensation and Johannesburg artist ZULO returns with Something Lekker, his new body of work  rooted in South African identity and nostalgia. The project draws from hip-hop, pop and R&B while  remaining unmistakably African. It is warm, romantic and playful — a feel-good summer project built  around the idea of becoming a more mature lover: searching, choosing, enduring, celebrating and  ultimately learning to appreciate love.

The project’s sonic world began two years earlier with “Smaak To Love (Lamza)”, whose release quietly set the stage for the  sound and direction ZULO would later explore across Something Lekker. That world now expands across  eight tightly curated records, led by “meddie”.

At its heart, Something Lekker is about home, memories, and heritage. The comforting familiarity of the Cape Malay koeksister becomes intertwined with romance; sweetness as a metaphor for love, and home as a metaphor for belonging. In its artwork, a table set for two with one chair still empty, Something Lekker captures the anticipation of love: hopeful, vulnerable and ready for someone to arrive.

Something warm, something fun, something South African.

Something lekker.

About ZULO:

Born and raised in the south of Johannesburg, ZULO is a South African artist carving out a sound that feels  both nostalgic and distinctly new. Blending hip-hop, pop and an unmistakable flavour of kwaito, his music  pulls from different corners of South African culture while carrying the warmth, melody and character of  records from another time.

That range has become part of ZULO’s signature: the kwaito bounce of “Adawise”, the hip-hop and trap  energy of “JOL”, and the afro-pop warmth of “Smaak To Love (Lamza)” all live within his sonic sphere. At  the centre is his heritage, woven through his language, humour and references.

The same freedom carries into his visual identity. With an eccentric approach to fashion that plays  between masculine and feminine, vintage and contemporary, ZULO treats style as an extension of his  music.

Creativity has always been instinctive for ZULO. Long before music became his primary medium, he was  writing stories and poetry, developing video games and making homemade films. He began releasing  music as a teenager, topping commercial radio charts throughout high school, laying the foundation for  the multidisciplinary artist he would become.

More interested in expanding the definition than fitting neatly inside one genre, ZULO is building his own  interpretation of South African music, with ambitions of taking that distinctly local palette global and  establishing himself as a proudly coloured rap-pop sensation.
