Festive fun for the whole family in immersive Toyland experience

Live acts by Ballet dancers and The Cirk

Extended trading hours

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and Africa’s most iconic shopping centre has announced plans to make this festive season even more magnificent. Sandton City will be hosting an immersive never-seen-before Toyland experience in its centre court, inviting shoppers of all ages to escape into a magical world of toys, daily from 9 December 2021 – 9 January 2022.

At no less than 700 square metres in size, and featuring exclusive activations by brands such as Hamleys, Build-a-Bear, Toy Kingdom, Lego and Checkers, Toyland will be everything that dreams are made of for young hearts. Live acts by The Cirk acrobatic artists (daily at 12pm and 4pm from 9 – 24 December) and by Ballet dancers (daily at 2pm and 6pm from 16 – 24 December) are set to enthrall passers-by or those who’d like to pause (in a socially distanced way) and enjoy the wonder of these complimentary performances.

Santa Claus himself will usher in the festive season with his much-anticipated arrival to the centre. From 9 December, Johannesburg’s children will not only get to meet the legendary man, but also to treasure these special moments forever with an array of photographic packages available. He will be stationed in Toyland daily from 9am – 6pm, except on 24 December from 9pm – 2pm, when he needs to leave early to start delivering gifts.

The Disney-inspired Christmas Tree will give shoppers an opportunity to pay it forward by supporting the Smile Foundation, a non-profit organization that works to improve the quality of life of children with facial conditions. At a towering ten-metres high, and adorned with over 400 Disney plush toys, the tree will serve as an invitation to pledge R 50 towards this organization. After the end of the festive season, all of the plush toys and the cash pledges will be donated to children that have undergone through corrective facial reconstructive surgery and treatments because every child deserves to smile.

Knowing that selecting the perfect gifts takes time, to make Christmas shopping as easy as possible, Sandton City will operate with extended trading hours. Visitors to the centre will be able to shop from its over 300 prestigious stores from 9am – 8 pm from 9 – 15 December, from 9am – 9 pm from 16 -23 December, and from 9 pm – 6 pm on 24 December. Additionally, the centre’s recently launched online gift card provides a new gifting solution, for gift-givers situated anywhere in the world wanting to open this unparalleled shopping destination and give the gift of choice to their loved ones. The online gift cards may be purchased at

Two convenient gift-wrapping stations will help to ensure that nobody gets a sneak peek at what’s inside the shopping parcels before the big day. These stations will enable shoppers to have their purchases beautifully wrapped in a bespoke wrapping paper and to donate to the Sandton Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in lieu of this service. One station will be situated outside Total Sports with another outside Jet.

“From our immersive Toyland installation to captivating live performances, exquisite décor, extended trading hours, wrapping services and more, there is no better place to enjoy the splendour of the festive season this year” says Preston Gaddy, General Manager of Sandton City. “We can’t wait to welcome visitors of all ages to Sandton City and look forward to making this holiday even happier,” he added.
