A small-time counterfeiter and an ambitious influencer team up in a high-stakes scheme that attracts both criminals and law enforcement.
Netflix has released the first trailer for Bad Influencer, a South African crime drama premiering on October 31. The series marks the first project developed through the Realness Institute and Netflix’s Episodic Lab initiative.
The story follows BK, played by Jo-Anne Reyneke, a single mother struggling to support her son with special needs. To make ends meet, she begins selling counterfeit luxury handbags online. Her partner in the venture is Pinky, portrayed by Cindy Mahlangu, a self-absorbed influencer eager to gain fame and wealth.
Their business soon draws the attention of Bra Alex, a crime boss involved in a counterfeiting ring, as well as the police. As pressure mounts, the two women must find a way to avoid arrest and escape the violent world they’ve entered.
The series was created by Kudi Maradzika and developed by Lincoln Green Media, with production handled by Gambit Films. The cast includes former Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi, Thapelo Mokoena, Mpilo Shabalala, Hamilton Dlamini, Modise Motaung, Kamo Pule, Emmanuel Castis, Julia Anastasopoulos, Brendon Daniels, Aubrey Poo, Nat Ramabulana, Lerato Nxumalo, and Charlie Bouguenon.
Nosipho Ngoasheng Dumisa and Kudi Maradzika serve as executive producers alongside Bradley Joshua, Benjamin Overmeyer, Simon Beesley, Travis Taute, and Daryne Joshua. Daniel Zimbler is co-executive producer, with Keitumetse Qhali and Ari Kruger directing. Maradzika and Zimbler also lead the writing team, joined by Sydney Dire.
The trailer offers a glimpse into a fast-paced story of deception, ambition, and survival, introducing viewers to BK and Pinky’s dangerous double life. Bad Influencer will be available to stream globally on Netflix from October 31.
