Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way to Johannesburg! The festive season is here and Bedford Centre is making it even more wonderful this year. For the first time in Africa, the centre is hosting an 8-metre high Christmas tree, featuring thousands of LED lights that animate with spectacular displays of colour and movement.
Stationed outside the centre, at the circle adjacent to Smith and Kirby roads, the dazzling tree is a sight to behold, as it illuminates with spectacular animations and designs throughout the day. The tree’s 12 000 RGBW LED bulbs are able to create intricate optical effects with 16,777,216 potential shades of colour. Each LED bulb is precisely mapped after installation to enable the controllers to specify exactly which colour, which shade of colour, and which intensity of colour each of the 12 000 LEDs produce at every moment, during each effect. The intricate placement of bulbs serves as canvas, on which each bulb contributes to an explosion of colour, in this incredible visual spectacle.
Situated in the heart of Bedfordview, offering its discerning shoppers a unique elegant, European-inspired shopping, living, working and dining experience, Bedford Centre hosts over 170 chic stores, and numerous delectable dining spots. These will operate with extended trading hours from 18 – 22 December during which most outlets will be open from 09:00- 19:00 daily.
Santa Claus himself will be paying the centre a visit and will be available for photographs from 2 – 24 December, in the centre court area close to Pick n Pay. Right next to him, in Santa’s kitchen, come decorate your own gingerbread man with complimentary gingerbread decorating kits, while stocks last from 15 – 23 December.
