Durban Tourism is Calling all culture vultures, foodies, art lovers, music lovers to come party in the city’s first ever KwaZulu World Carnival to boost the city’s local tourism and bring cultural diversity from across Africa!

A kaleidoscope of colors floods the streets as a parade winds its way from Workshop to Hoy Park. Think dazzling costumes, pulsating drumbeats, and electrifying dance performances showcasing the rich tapestry of KwaZulu culture. From awe-inspiring Zulu traditions to the rhythmic stylings of neighboring countries like eSwatini and Zambia, this parade is a global party where the city will showcase the diversity that lives in the province of different cultures, races and heritage.

Dress to Impress in multiracial cultural costumes 

Dust off your most vibrant traditional attire or a costume that reflects your heritage. This is a family-friendly affair. All races can come ready dressed to see everything from pint-sized stilt walkers to majestic carnival costumes gracing the streets.

The Music Party and activities at Hoy Park!

After the parade, the festivities move to Hoy Park, where a free concert featuring the legendary Big Zulu will have you grooving until sunset. But the fun doesn’t stop there! Local and international food vendors will tantalize your taste buds with a mouthwatering journey across Africa. From sizzling Durban bunny chow to the savory stews of Burundi, prepare to embark on a culinary adventure.

Feeling Fancy?

Although the concert is free for all but for those who prefer a more VIP experience, there’s a dedicated section with premium seating, lunch included, and a cash bar, all for a cool R300.

The free concert will start at 3pm until 9pm at Hoy Park with some local big names accompanied by dance and music groups from other countries. Local chefs and those from around the continent will showcase different African cuisines at the Carnival Food Expo. The event is free, however, food and drinks will be on sale.  Those, who prefer a VIP setting, will be able to purchase tickets on-site.

This is an opportunity to celebrate what makes each culture unique and special. The line-up will be released in due time so for now, diarise the date.
