The insane conservation antics of South African wildlife crusader, Dingo Dinkelman, have seen him rocket to social media stardom, with his online shows viewed by millions across the globe. But it’s going to be Dingo energy multiplied by four this weekend as he’s joined by three more of the globe’s craziest conservationists as VIPs at this year’s SOS² Reptile Expo taking place at Emperors Palace in Joburg from 29 to 30 April.

Having arrived last week, Dingo has been playing host to the three American visitors – ‘Danger’ Danny Perich and Savannah Boan from Gatorland, and Kevin McCurley founder and owner of New England Reptile Distributors (NERD). The trio has joined Dingo on several African wildlife adventures, including dehorning rhinos in an effort to curb the poaching pandemic; the soft release of pangolins – the most endangered mammals on the planet; collaring lions to conserve natural populations; relocating crocodiles; as well as many other reptile-based activities!

“Conservation is a collaborative effort and it’s awesome that we all get to share our knowledge about local efforts, and highlight what needs to be done to save animal species at a national level,” explained Dingo, the award-winning conservationist and social media celebrity. “I always have an unforgettable time visiting Gatorland and the New England Reptile Distributors, so I’ve made sure the US team has enjoyed an epic African experience, and we’re looking forward to engaging with the crowd at SOS² Reptile Expo this weekend.”

Dingo also extended his thanks to the incredible Zebra Hills Safari Lodge located within the 23 000ha Manyoni Private Game Reserve, a Zululand-based Big 5 reserve. “Zebra Hills is honestly our home away from home, and we are so grateful to them for playing host to this important conservation expedition.”

Savannah and Danny come with vast reptilian experience, having worked at ‘The Alligator Capital of the World’ for a number of years. Since 1949, Gatorland has been Florida’s leader in alligator safety and education and, in 2018, the organisation established Gatorland Global – a dedicated conservation programme that provides resources and support to conservation research across the world. Social media celebrity, Savannah, leads the park’s worldwide efforts to save alligators and crocodiles and is the international ambassador for Gatorland Global.

They’re joined by Kevin McCurley of NERD, who started the organisation as a hobbyist with a passion for reptiles and has grown it into one of the largest reptile breeders in the Northeast of the United States. Last year, Dingo joined Kevin on his home turf when he embarked on another international information-sharing expedition, before heading to Gatorland to check out some of America’s biggest reptiles.

The team will be heading to SOS² Reptile Expo at Emperors Palace for talks on 29 and 30 April. Proven to be one of the biggest expos of its kind in the country, thousands of visitors flock to learn from the industry’s best and check out the incredible display of fascinating reptiles. Tickets are available at a cost of R70 for adults, R30 for children U12, and are available at the door or from [email protected].
