Born Kgomotso Taukubong, Coco Brown took first place in the Miller x Boiler Room DJ challenge which took place earlier this year.  This saw her playing live at the Boiler Room stage in Cape Town, alongside Zakes Bantwini. She has been playing for seven years and aims to become a prominent figure in the entertainment industry.

Coco Brown is a South African Hip Hop radio and club DJ who graduated from DJ Zinhle’s Fuse Academy. She is a final year student in Media Practices at Boston Media House and won Pearl Thusi’s Halo Project DJ competition in 2015.

‘’Being part of the Miller x Boiler Room DJ competition was a memorable experience for me, it’s moments like these that remind you of where you come from. Winning the Miller x Boiler Room felt amazing, it affirmed my journey as a DJ thus far. It also proved that I could achieve absolutely anything that I put my mind to,’’ says Coco Brown.

‘’I’ve had to endure some difficulties throughout my career so winning this competition will always be something very special for me. The crowd was asked to vote and hearing them scream the loudest when my name was called was lifechanging,’’ she adds.

She steadily grows her DJ’ing career through a combination of events and platforms. She partnered to play live on the JOOX South Africa app and continues to dominate the airwaves by being featured on 5 FM, 947, Metro FM and other local radio stations.

‘’This is only the beginning, there’s so much more I want to do with the Coco Brown brand. My future plans include focusing more on expanding my brand, working on my own music, travelling more and representing Hip Hop in different cities and eventually different countries,’’ concludes Coco Brown.
