Earlier this month, 14-year-old songstress, actress and dancer, Jeanique, dropped her debut single ‘Pyramid’ which has been met with positive responses from both fans and critics. Inspired by acts like Billie Eilish, Anne-Marie, Twenty One Pilots and Bastille, Jeanique is determined to create pop music that identifies with her audience while having the ability to set dancefloors alight.

‘Pyramid’ has already been included in Apple Music’s ‘Hot Tracks’ and ‘Best Of The Week’ and with a new track releasing at the end of the week, a ballad showing off Jeanique’s vocal range, we’ve put together five fun facts about the bright young star:

  • Jeanique is not only a talented vocalist, but a musician as well. She plays three instruments namely the guitar, piano and ukulele and enjoys letting her creative juices flow.
  • Songwriting is also a big passion for Jeanique. She wrote her very first song when she was just eight years old and it sparked a love affair for telling stories through song. “I wrote a song called ‘Justice’ and it was about Superman and his crime-fighting lifestyle,” Jeanique says.
  • Jeanique admits that she picked up her first language and could speak fluent Afrikaans when she was just 1 and a half years old.
  • Being a music lover, Jeanique’s favourite song changes constantly. However, her current favourite song is ‘Pink Lemonade’ by The Wombats.
  • Jeanique’s most embarrassing moment came when she was just four years old. She and her family visited the ‘Good Food and Wine Show’ at the Dome in Northgate where she snuck onto one of the platforms, grabbed a microphone and started singing ‘The Best of Both Worlds’ from the Hannah Montana TV show. “It echoed throughout the whole Dome and everyone turned around and watched me sing. They all cheered and clapped when I was done.”

Jeanique’s ‘Pyramid’ is now available on all major digital music streaming platforms and her new single ‘Forever More’ premieres this Friday.
