Cape Town, 14 February, 2024 – The Prescient Foundation’s (The Foundation’s) annual fundraising Golf Day on 12 February at Steenberg Golf Club marked its tenth anniversary of successfully raising funds for the Foundation’s education-focussed initiatives.
Through its annual Golf Day, the Foundation partners with the wider Prescient Group, its subsidiaries, clients and industry players to support the Foundation’s various initiatives that enhance the lives of surrounding communities and young people.
Funds raised from this year’s milestone event will be directed towards the Foundation’s Leadership Programme – that includes leadership summits and scholarships.
Prescient Foundation CEO, Nicole Pinto, says the success of the annual Golf Day is attributed to its valuable sponsors and supporters – some of which have been supporting our initiatives since the inaugural Golf Day in 2013.
The Foundation was established in 2005 as an initiative to help staff gain access to home loans. Two decades later, this initiative falls within their staff economic well-being projects. The Prescient Group’s subsidiaries are a main contributor to the success and growth of the Foundation over the years. Subsidiaries have been contributing 1% of their profits to the Foundation since its inception – testament to how Prescient staff are committed to meaningfully contributing to a better South Africa through their hard work, albeit indirectly.
“The funds raised at this year’s Golf Day will significantly contribute to our educational initiatives, empowering young minds for a brighter future to understand that they can define their future,” explains Pinto.
Programmes and initiatives
Under the banner “Made for More”, the Foundation organises leadership summits and motivational talks at schools, focusing on empowering and equipping learners with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective leadership. With 11 leadership summits, four camps, and 36 school visits since its inception in 2005, the Foundation has demonstrated a consistent commitment to nurturing leadership qualities among students, making a lasting impact on communities.
The Foundation’s scholarship initiative provides financial support to primary school learners transitioning to high school, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their educational pursuits. Paired with a mentorship programme, which connects Prescient staff with learners, the Foundation has facilitated 14 successful high school graduates and currently supports 14 learners on their academic journeys. Graduates are currently studying towards degrees in law, architecture, teaching, IT and Public management. These accomplishments underscore the Foundation’s dedication to creating a positive and empowering educational environment, shaping a brighter future for the students involved.
Recognising the importance of ongoing support for long-term success and empowerment, the Foundation is dedicated to building a thriving community and shaping future leaders.
An example of their commitment to long-term success is their collaboration with Sakhikamva Foundation to fund a state-of the art STREAM laboratory based at Floreat Primary School in 2022. The STREAM lab benefits both the school as well as the wider community and provides advanced facilities for technological education, including Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) skills as well as robotics and coding workshops for grade 7 – 12 learners.
The Foundation’s initiatives are aligned with the Prescient Group’s purpose of creating financial certainty for a better tomorrow through their commitment to sustainable development.
