Working with local South African artists, BIC revamped school facilities for over 4,000 students in need. Stemming from its belief in the importance of creativity and self-expression to human growth and cognitive development, BIC provided local artists with its flagship 4-Color pen to beautify schools in the country through mural creation. The initiative is in commemoration of Global Education Week and is in line with the company’s commitment to improving learning conditions for 250 million students by 2025.

Over the course of the month, teachers and students from various schools including Glenoaks Primary School, WitDeep Primary School, Harmony Primary School, Goudveld Senior School, Laerskool Tuinrand, and GR Harris enjoyed the revamped facilities in their schools. BIC donated the necessary writing and self-expression tools to the selected schools, in the aim of elevating the learning experience of students and teachers in the classroom.

Commenting on the importance of education to BIC, Lilian Henderson, Marketing Director for Southern and Eastern Africa at BIC, said: “We remain committed to education and are agile to the ongoing evolution of the sector. We believe in the importance of writing, coloring, and creativity in the development of children and youth’s cognitive abilities and skills that prepare them for the future. Our commitment to education merged with our love for our county and communities drive us to continue to contribute to education and exceed expectations in education initiatives, year after year.”

Glenoaks Primary School teacher Savannah Karam expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the BIC for its invaluable contribution to enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the school. She said: “We are over the moon with our mural, the kids love it, and we can’t wait to take tons of pictures in front of our new favorite wall. The BIC team has been wonderful throughout this whole process, and we hope that we collaborate further in the future to create better learning environments for our upcoming generations.”

From her end, Harmony Primary School Principal Haseena Khan said: “The students are so excited to have the mural, they are already taking selfies in front of the artistic walls. The teachers here are truly appreciative of the effort BIC has put in to enhance the environment for ourselves as teachers, and our students. Improving the aesthetics of the school certainly uplifts the energy of the school, students, and staff.”

BIC is committed to improving learning conditions for students around the world, as part of its Writing the Future Together sustainable development program. The company has flagship initiatives in South Africa including Buy a Pen Donate a Pen and works relentlessly to create impact and meaning for the youth.
