In a bid to meet the needs of the changing socio-economic landscape of schools in the rural parts of South Africa, PPC in partnership with the Department of Basic Education has handover a mobile science lab valued at R140 000. This mobile science lab will benefit Grade 10, 11 and 12 pupils with their Life and Physical science subjects as well as grades 8 and 9 pupils with Natural Science subjects at Vulumzi Secondary School in Motherwell, Port Elizabeth.
With the COVID-19 lockdown impacting the learning environment of our future leaders, these partners have come together to give the community sustainable value that encourage them to experience a better quality of life. This contribution is critical as it gives them the confidence to continue to reach for their potential by leveraging the science we know around COVID-19 in their learn opportunity provided by the mobile science lab.
According to Barry Jacobs, Area Manager, Sales & Marketing, “Investing in education is a top priority for us all at PPC, because sustainability is a key focus of the initiative. PPC has put various measures in place to ensure the most effective use of the labs thereby ensuring as many learners as possible have improved access to STEM facilities.”
Since 2016, the PPC science education programme has deployed 33 mobile science labs. The science labs incorporate the technology and science to conduct experiments needed in South Africa’s high school syllabuses. Many learners have been given a stepping stone to new career paths as the next generation of engineers, scientists and technicians.
“We’re excited to be receiving the donation of the Mobile Science Lab from PPC, the lab will help both the educators and learners’ with the improvement of science teaching experience, learning and consequently assist with the improvement of pass rates”, says Mr Mzimkhulu Fina Principal of Vulumzi Secondary School.
PPC’s ongoing engagement with the communities it operates within has propelled the business to empower the community to experience a better quality of life.
