New Innovative WASH & Dignity Hub Launched at Ivory Park School - Midrand, Johannesburg

On Tuesday, 9th September SOSNPO handed over new WASH and Water Provisioning, to Ivory Park Primary School.

Ivory Park Primary School is one of largest in Gauteng. With 2368 Learners and just under 100 Staff.

The School now has a brand new sustainable and innovative sanitation area with 12 Non-Sewered Toilets (6 boys, 6 girls) with basins and hand-washing Facilities. Walls and Flooring were constructed, to create a safe, dignified space.  Before it was a disused area of waste and rubbish.

The School Borehole, which had been out of action for many years, was fixed and a new Filtration and Pump system was installed. A Dignity Hub (Toilet & Shower) was also constructed,as well as food gardens, to support the School’s feeding initative  🌱🥕🥬🧅

WASH is a majorly important factor for all Schools. Ivory Park has been struggling with consistent municipal water failures. They have been experiencing 40 days of no water just in the last 3 months.  When the School has no water, they have to close it and send the learners home.  This impacts devastatingly on their education and also missing out on a daily meal at the school

With this safe, sustainable and dignified contribution, Ivory Park’s learners will, for the first time in many years, have access to a consistent, safe water supply.

Principal Poppy Ngwenya expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the school community, noting that In thecoming weeks, our learners will no longer have to go home early or miss school because there is no water. This changes everything for us.”

A Fully Funded Scholarship Award from the Dis-Chem Foundation, for Tertiary Education at Inscape Design School, was also bestowed to Allanridge High School, which is the feeder school from Ivory Park. Principal Roberts was honoured to have this gift presented to their school and one Exemplary learner, to have Such an Amazing Opportunity!!
