ENABLING AFFORDABLE ACCESS TO GLOBALLY ACCREDITED ONLINE COURSES FOR STUDENTS AND PROFESSIONALS IN AFRICA
Trident Institute

The Trident Institute, a first-of-its-kind distance learning platform launched earlier this year, will partner with global universities to make their accredited courses available to students and professionals.

Developed initially as an exclusive platform to provide specialised Building Information Modelling (BIM) education and many other industry-specific courses, this move will soon see short courses and training courses offered across various disciplines online. These include automation, artificial intelligence, business essentials, leadership and management, finance and investment and property management, and building information modelling (BIM).

“This move enables access to affordable global education to those who might not normally be able to afford it,” says Mashudu Madzhie. “Upskilling within your career is the key to a more successful and resilient future, but many students and professionals have not yet had the opportunity to access these globally accredited and CPD-certified courses”.

The Nido Trust owns the Institute. The Trust is a charitable Trust focusing on introducing industry-specific programmes accredited by local bodies and endorsed by professional bodies globally. The Trustees of the Trust are Henry Lukenge, Lungile Koti and Patrick Oketa, all individuals who are passionate about education and community empowerment. Lukenge, the founder of the Trust, is originally from Uganda and now resides in Canada, where he is the CEO and president of Nexim Healthcare.

The affordability issue is paramount to what the Institute wants to achieve, with bursaries being a significant focus of this educational platform. Funds received from these short courses will be channelled into bursary schemes directed at previously disadvantaged students through the Nido Trust. The Henry Lukenge Fellowship is also being offered, subsiding the cost of registering for local and global accredited and certified courses.

“As professionals joining and studying through the Institute, you will not only be upskilling yourselves and bettering your career prospects, but you will also be contributing to the upliftment and education of others,” Madzhie says.

“We are currently in advanced discussions with various local and global educational institutions and professional bodies such as the British Standards Institution (BSi) who are willing to come on board to help open the doors of learning to many people in Africa,” Henry Lukenge says.
