The first day of Grade 1 is a momentous occasion for children and families, and this year saw 566 young students take their first steps into formal education at Crawford International campuses across South Africa.

Among them, 90 students have enrolled at the Crawford Ruimsig campus, 88 at Lonehill, and 112 at the Sandton Pre-Primary campus. These learners will follow the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework, an educational programme that is recognised globally for its emphasis on developing inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, and global awareness.

The IB curriculum introduces students to a broad spectrum of academic disciplines while encouraging curiosity and a deeper understanding of the world. By embedding these principles from the start, learners are equipped with the tools needed to navigate an increasingly interconnected and complex future. The programme also aims to instil values of responsibility and adaptability, preparing students to become active and thoughtful members of society.

Unathi Bonga, Public Relations Consultant for Advtech’s Crawford International, commented on this significant milestone: “The first day of Grade 1 is an exciting time for learners and families alike. It marks the beginning of an educational journey filled with opportunities to grow, learn, and engage with the world in meaningful ways. The Class of 2037 is stepping into a programme that not only nurtures academic success but also develops the skills and perspectives needed to contribute positively to their communities.”

The involvement of parents, guardians, and teachers is instrumental in supporting these young learners as they begin this journey. Their encouragement and active participation form the backbone of a collaborative effort to provide a well-rounded and enriching educational experience.
