In a bid to align the learning environment at Happy Day Care Centre to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines for an early childhood development programme and/or partial care facility on COVID-19, PPC Ltd has donated material to help improve teaching and learning in Happy Sabby Day Care Centre in Pretoria. The donation which entailed paving, cement, fixing of the roof and Wendy House is part of the efforts to address, prevent and combat COVID19 at the school, ensuring the quality of learning and play that takes place is not compromised.
Happy Sabby Day Care Centre is an early development centre and has been in existence for 9 years. The daycare centre has 63 children and 4 staff members from the community of Hercules. Caring for children from 1 to 7 years, the school has struggled to align with the SOPs put in place by the Department of Basic Education, ensuring a safe learning environment.
Boitumelo Mnisi, General Manager at PPC RSA explained, “The donation is part of PPC’s drive to bring about meaningful and sustainable development through social infrastructure. One of the key objectives of supporting education is to create an environment that is conducive to teaching and learning in schools and empowering the lives of the children to experience a better quality of life. This will give them the security and dignity they need to realize their potential”.
Committed to addressing this challenge, PPC’s 128-year experience within the community has made the business become an integral part of the community’s development. Through its ongoing support of local initiatives like Ennerdale Al Taawun Fi Al Centre, Vaalbosch Hall – Driveway Roof Project Closure handover, Lighthouse children’s home toilets building, science labs donated, and brick machines donated to SMMES and QwaQwa community project, PPC has continued to live its brand promise. This support has given the community the confidence to continue to engage in PPC and realize a future that is linked to the continued manufacturing of PPC cement related building materials.
“The donation of the materials, wendy house, furniture, PPEs and stationery came at the right time, we appreciate PPC for choosing us as one of their CSI beneficiaries and giving us the courage to continue improving and empowering our communities. The support will go a long way in addressing the needs of the beneficiaries at the daycare centre,” says Sabina Monyoko, Founder of Happy Sabby Day Care Centre.
The donation was made with the understanding that social distancing will be maintained while the children learn, especially in light of the stressful nature of the current Covid-19 pandemic. #TogetherWeAreStronger
