Liberty Midlands Mall recently celebrated 20 years of serving the Pietermaritzburg community with various activities at the mall including live music, a giant birthday cake, special offers and competitions, but the celebration isn’t over yet! In the spirit of giving that the centre is known for, the Midlands Mall team have handed over a play gym to an early childhood development centre that supports toddlers in the area.
The Thandabantwana Creche and pre-school is a fully functioning caregiving facility with approximately 40 enrolled children, aged 0 – 6. With the aid of Singakwenza who provide educational resources, Thandabantwana aims to change little lives, believing in the full potential of each child in its care. Play is crucial for young children’s development because it fosters creativity, social skills, and cognitive growth. Play gyms provide an opportunity to practice these skills, not to mention, hours of fun.
On the day of the handover, the Midlands Mall team enjoyed the morning with the children, providing happy meals all round and an additional donation of groceries to the centre. The children were also treated to delicious doughnuts from Krispy Kreme.
“Liberty Midlands Mall is thrilled to have donated a play gym to the Thandabantwana Centre because we care deeply for our community and wanted to help this facility continue the incredible work that they do,” said Desmond Heunis, General Manager, Liberty Midlands Mall. “We envisage a bright future for the young children in their care and we are proud to have contributed to their growth and well-being in this small way,” he concluded.
