Last week, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers were invited to join the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Hon. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma on a tour of some of the areas affected by the floods in kwa-Zulu Natal. Assessing the extent of the damage, the delegation also provided food packs to the displaced communities.
As one of only two social partners, Scientology Volunteers considers it an honour to have been part of the delegation. After having spent the last 2 years on the frontlines of covid, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers quickly sprang into action after the floods hit and travelled to Durban to offer relief.
They were seen working with Joint Operations in Search and Rescue, distributing foods, clothes, blankets, conducting counselling sessions with trauma victims and doing massive clean-ups after the deadly floods claimed more than 400 lives.
The tour began with a visit to Molweni Multi-Purpose Hall, where the honourable Ms. Dlamini Zuma addressed the community and thanked them for their bravery and resilience.
An outline of the damage in the area and impact the floods had done by the delegation and then food distributions began to assist the rebuilding of the community. The hall was filled with cries of joy as they were encouraged to keep their faith up.
“It is very crucial that we do our best to rebuild the homes of the affected. What happened was very devastating and we want to provide whatever relief possible to make sure that they receive the deserved care” – said Mandy Pelser, a Scientology Volunteer Minister.
The delegation then proceeded to eMlazi, another area badly destroyed. Upon arrival, the delegation was surprised to be met by the Hon. Hendrietta Bogopane Zulu, Deputy Minister of Social who immediately exclaimed “I am so glad to see you!”.
More assessment was done of the area. By the end, Scientology Volunteer Ministers and other volunteers helped the two ministers distribute large amounts of food parcels which they had prepared for the community.
