A new hope is birthed! Hillcrest based non-profit organization, Focus on iThemba, spent the past two weeks distributing 800 food parcels to the community they support within the Valley of 1000 Hills. In response to the fight against COVID-19, the organization, together with the support of several key partners and foundations, was equipped to offer relief to 800 households, roughly 3200 individuals, with the provision of food and other hygiene essentials.

“We are so grateful for this opportunity to continue to impact our community in the Valley of 1000 Hills in the fight against COVID-19”, said Tayla-Anne Goss, Team Leader at Focus on iThemba. “A large portion of our energy went into carefully planning the systematic distribution and collection of parcels at every distribution point to ensure we facilitated a smooth and safe collection process.”

The response from the community was that of complete gratitude. Eunice Ngubane, food relief beneficiary and Principal of Sthandokuhle Pre-School expressed, “I thank Focus on iThemba and all the donors for filling our hearts with hope! So many people are going to go home today feeling very happy because they can provide food for their families.”

Food items in the parcels include assorted beans, cooking oil, rice, maize meal, salt, sugar, instant porridge, soup mix, soya mince, multi-purpose soap and toilet paper.

“We would like to extend our grateful thanks to our 7 key partners for their invaluable contribution to this food relief initiative as well as our amazing volunteers who gave of their time, hearts and hands to help us get these parcels out to their rightful homes” added Goss.
