Six hundred Lenasia residents received blankets and bread this past weekend as Moti Cares partnered with Wise Giving Foundation to extend its 2026 Winter Drive into the area.

The handover formed part of Moti Cares’ national winter relief campaign, which aims to support vulnerable communities during the coldest months of the year.

Through the partnership, 600 blankets and loaves of bread were provided to Wise Giving Foundation, a community-based organisation working with families and individuals facing hardship in and around Lenasia. With its knowledge of the local community, Wise Giving Foundation assisted in ensuring that the items reached residents who needed support during the winter period.

Zunaid Moti, founder of Moti Cares, said the Lenasia distribution highlighted the importance of working with trusted community organisations.

“Local organisations often know the need better than anyone else. They know which families are struggling, which elderly residents need support, and where help can make the biggest difference. Our role is to support that work and help them reach more people,” said Moti.

He added that the Winter Drive is about providing practical support in a way that respects local knowledge and community relationships.

“This campaign is not about arriving in a community and assuming we know everything. It is about listening to the people on the ground and supporting the organisations that are already doing the work,” he said.

“We know that one small act will not change every challenge a family is facing. But if it can keep a family a little warmer at night, bring a little comfort, or make someone feel seen on a difficult day, then it matters. Sometimes that small bit of relief can mean more than people realise,” added Moti.

The Lenasia distribution forms part of the broader Moti Cares 2026 Winter Drive, which aims to distribute 20,000 blankets across South Africa during the winter season.

The campaign also continues to encourage members of the public, particularly young people during Youth Month, to identify communities, charities, families and organisations in need of winter support.

Nominations can be made by commenting on Zunaid Moti’s official social media platforms and sending a direct message with contact details and more information. The Moti Cares team will review and verify nominations where possible as the campaign continues.

Moti Cares has been running its annual Winter Drive for the past few years and has previously supported more than 60,000 people through donations to under-resourced communities, shelters, religious organisations, care facilities and families in need.

As winter continues, Moti Cares will roll out further distributions every weekend, working with community leaders, religious leaders and local organisations to reach vulnerable households across South Africa.
