Today, the President of the Church of Scientology of South Africa released to various officials of religious sectors as well as businessmen important statistics covering the extent of the volunteer work that the Scientology Volunteer Ministers have done since lockdown hit, 100 days ago.
Being concerned by the pandemic and the fact that the situation is worsening due to winter, she announced how much work was done in combating Covid-19 to encourage others to keep playing their part against this fight.
Gaetane Asselin, President of the Church, summarized what the work represented, “Since day 1, our priority has always been to assist essential services – those who kept the country together, the most vulnerable and the hardest hit by this. This is why the Volunteer Ministers went as far as they did until now.
Asselin quotes statistics:
•“Over 10,000 buildings, including many government buildings and the hundreds of buildings they are responsible for – such as shelters for homeless, elderly homes and orphanages; municipality buildings and more.
• “Nearly 300,000 taxis, ambulances, metro police cars and fire trucks sanitized.
• “Tens of thousands of buses sanitized during night shift so millions of commuters can be safer during their travel to work.
• “One million hygiene booklets translated in Zulu, Xhosa and Sotho, with over 600,000 distributed so far to give basic tips to the millions on how to protect themselves against Covid19.”
Asselin says that this represented, 15 hours a day of work and seven days a week for the last 100 days, for hundreds of volunteers. “It is tough. But we are thrilled to have been able to assist in that way.
Millions appreciated beyond words the work done and that keeps us going.” In total, she says the Scientology Volunteer Ministers have donated 250,000 hours of volunteer work, all at their own cost just to safeguard essential services and their community.
A community leader in Ekurhuleni stated, “Your dedication, motivation and perseverance leaves me speechless.” A horse trainer burst into tears when she met with volunteers who told her there was no catch and everything was for free, “Nobody does this these days. This is exceptional.” A Court manager from Koster Magistrate Court said, “I thank you for your tireless effort in time when we most needed help.” A member of a religious community said, “You are angels that just fell from the sky.” A professional nurse expressed herself, “As you do volunteer work, God is going to bless you. As you give a hand to others, God is going to shake your hands. Please don’t give up.”
Asselin stands tall as she explains how much the Volunteer Ministers have done. “We have all been trained by the Volunteer Ministers technology of L. Ron Hubbard, which keeps us going in these difficult times. It gives us the certainty to do even more.”
