5 reasons to celebrate every day

“People of our time are losing the power of celebration. Instead of celebrating we seek to be amused or entertained. Celebration is an active state, an act of expressing reverence or appreciation.” – Philosopher, Abraham Joshua Heschel

Aside from a birthday, graduation or anniversary, when last did you celebrate? When last did you sit, reflect and express gratitude for things like a good health, the ability to exercise or the gift of spending time with family?

Mark Bunn, Managing Director of FUTURELIFE® says, “The past 18 months have impacted our daily lives in so many ways and now, more than ever, we are reminded to not take our families and our health for granted. FUTURELIFE® are calling on all South Africans to rethink and reinvest in their own celebrations. It is so important to celebrate coming together as a family, as friends and as people to make even small moments count.”

FUTURELIFE® offers 5 reasons why South Africans should be celebrating, with gratitude, everyday:

1. To enjoy the journey: We are so busy that we often miss out on some of life’s most precious moments. By taking the time to stop, smell the roses and celebrate, we are more likely to enjoy (and appreciate!) the journey.

2. To develop a positive mindset: Oprah says that the more you celebrate life, the more there is in life to celebrate. Choosing to celebrate every day will help cultivate a positive mindset and a positive mindset is said to reduce stress and even improve your health!

3. It will inspire others: Publicly celebrating your wins – big and small – will inspire and give others permission to reflect and celebrate their own wins as well.

4. It will make you happier: The levels of oxytocin and endorphins (your body’s happy hormones) are said to be elevated when you celebrate, the perfect reason to engage in this habit daily.

5. It will help you achieve your goals: When you purposely celebrate smaller milestones and accomplishments, you remind yourself that you are capable and able. This in turn increases your confidence and confidence leads to success.

How can you deliberately celebrate every day?

1. Eat at the table and use it as an opportunity to celebrate each other daily

2. Write personal celebration notes to yourself and others (a lunchbox note is always a winner!)

3. Give a social media shout-out

4. Spoil yourself and others with a small token of celebration

“Being able to celebrate your life every day with a grateful heart, will impact the way you view life in general. Don’t be so busy making money that you neglect to make memories. Remember to find joy in the journey, not just the destination. If we take life too seriously all of the time, we forget to enjoy the ride,” Mark concludes.
