Do you want to solve pesky hair problems without breaking the bank? These DIY hair masks can be made using household products that you likely already have at home. Some masks may be created with a blender (see the egg and banana mask below), but others use only one ingredient to get your hair in tip-top condition, regardless of whether you have dry, fine, or dandruff.

You don’t have to be a DIYer to get your hair done. In either case, you will have gorgeous hair in no time.

The problem: Thin hair

The solution: If your baby-fine hair is a problem, you might be worried about losing strands or hiding your scalp. You can get rid of your worries with a protein-rich hair treatment that can give you a fuller, more voluminous mane.

Audrey Davis-Sivasothy (author of Hair Care Rehab : The Ultimate Hair Repair and Reconditioning Manual) shares this tip with us: Make a “banana Protein Smoothie” that consists of bananas and eggs. This will increase hair strength, elasticity and thickness.

Make it by blending two egg yolks with two ripe bananas, two eggs, two tablespoons of honey, half-cup of conditioner and two tablespoons each of olive oil until you have a smooth mixture. Spread the batter all over. Leave it on for 20-30 minutes. Rinse off with cool water. Davis-Sivasothy states that “results are immediate.” “But remember that it only lasts up to your next shampoo.”

The problem: Brittle Hair

Solution: Strengthen the strands. Dry, brittle hair is not only difficult, but can also cause increased breakage and dullness. Egg yolks are a simple fix, according to Sadah Salzman, a hairstylist from Salon AKS in New York City. They will nourish and strengthen hair follicles.

Use it by mixing a bit of lemon in the yolks. This will reduce the egg smell. To really penetrate the hair, apply the mixture from the roots to the ends.

Problem: Unruly curls or waves

A homemade curl enhancer made with honey and molasses is the solution. Davis-Sivasothy states that honey and syrup are natural moisturizers, which can treat curls and prevent hair porosity.

You can use it by mixing a quarter cup of maple syrup or Molasses, 1/4 cup olive oil, four spoons of honey and two bananas. Add four table spoons each of water, lemon juice, and two tablespoons (adjust to suit your desired thickness).

Combine all ingredients. Remove any lumps. Warm over the stovetop. Make four sections of hair, then apply the sweet concoction evenly to each section. Leave it on for 45 minutes, then rinse well.
