Vaal Mall opens new link road access into the mall from the R57 Golden Highway

The new link road, with access directly off the R57 and which joins up with Helena Lochner Street, was officially opened yesterday, Tuesday, 1 August 2023, at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on site.

The road was opened by the MMC for Public Works Cllr. Tumi Mochawe. Representatives of the owners of Vaal Mall – JSE-listed SA REIT Growthpoint Properties and Flanagan & Gerard Property Group – council and members of the professional team were also in attendance.

Commenting on the new access road, Growthpoint’s Portfolio Manager for Vaal Mall, Shana Maree-Paraskevopoulos, says, “Offering our customers an exceptional, easy-to-navigate shopping experience is important to us and we are excited to open this link road to the public. The centre’s improved accessibility will not only enhance the experience for our customers using the new road but also for our customers using Vaal Mall’s other entrances where traffic congestion will be alleviated, making each shopping trip more convenient.”

Vaal Mall has also successfully completed the installation of its 2.5MW rooftop solar plant upgrade to its infrastructure. Taken together with Vaal Mall’s existing carport solar installation of approximately 1MVA, increases the mall’s total solar power plants to roughly 3MW.

Optimising this solar power, as part of the project the mall’s diesel generators will be consolidated to establish a hybrid solar and diesel integrated power system. This system is designed to utilise solar power whenever possible, including during load shedding periods.
