Johannesburg, February 2023: Those who follow CMTrading online, via their podcast or through quotes and articles in the business media will already be aware of Chief Trading strategist, Fred Razak, whose insightful opinions have become a very public face to the brand. Behind the scenes there are any number of other key figures, however, silently working to make CMTrading the best brokerage in the country.
As Head of Office, Alon Roslyakov can be viewed as a core cog in the running of CMTrading. Responsible for managing a team of Account Managers, IB partnerships and other aspects related to the operations, management and business growth of the South African office and company as a whole, it’s perhaps unsurprising to hear him say that the most important characteristic of success is discipline.
“If you aren’t driven to achieve results, then you will never achieve success. Failure is only such unless you are prepared to take the necessary steps to make sure it doesn’t happen again,” he says.
No leader works alone, however, and Office Manager and Head of HR, Gracia K Senga’s critical role sees her taking on a varied and daunting list of tasks. She comes prepared, however, and describes her past career experience as having been, “quite long” and encompassing many “different roles”. Her tip for getting through? “Showing up no matter what – some days are good; others are not so good but showing up and consistently showing up is important.”
More junior, but no less important, Sales Representative Luyanda Ndaba embodies CMTrading’s gutsy and disciplined workforce, when she says that the most important aspect of any successful career is the ability “to do something that you don’t want to do because you know it will benefit you in the long run.”
It’s a team that, without exception, is focused on success and who believes that this success is achieved through hard work, and relentless exacting discipline. It is also a team where individual members’ stories capture the benefits of that hard work.
Roslyakov describes his career as being one that paid off due to that hard work over time. Having worked multiple roles in different areas he explains he has won confidence in himself, and his abilities as well as a deep knowledge base of the business’ inner workings.
Of course, that is not to imply the team are automatons. While their successes are well recorded, it is because of their ability to relax after hours, that they all say they are capable of performing when it matters.
“I am part of an Afro Latin dance community and I take every opportunity I can to go dancing with my dance family,” says Senga, who adds that, “If I am not doing that you will find me running or hiking somewhere.”
Roslyakov also credits staying active as being a strong way for him to destress.
“It takes my mind off stressors that may be in my life. In addition, spending time with my dogs, friends and family helps to move my mindset to a calm and happy place,” he explains echoing the sentiments of sales rep Ndaba.
“I enjoy spending time with my family and friends,” she says, adding, “I de-stress by taking a walk. I love walks alone, they are therapeutic for me.”
What really shines through, when speaking to the team is their passion, focus and commitment, to whatever they happen to be doing at the time, whether it’s building the country’s most well respected brokerage or working on passion projects. Achievement, success and discipline go hand-in-hand with everything they do, and this is acknowledged by Roslyakov.
“Success is my greatest motivator in life. Whether that be personal or professional,” he says, adding that the success of his business and its clients are quite literally at the top of his bucket list.
“I’ve always wanted to enter the forex industry, trading has always been something I had an interest in since high school. So, it was amazing to work for a broker finally,” says Ndaba, who nonetheless acknowledges the simpler goal of “travelling the world” to be on top of her own bucket list.
Travelling the world, also ranks highly with Senga who quickly adds that her real passion would be the ability to give back, to work with the youth to help them become more employable, and given that she works at CMTrading, no one would doubt her ability, discipline or drive to achieve it.
