The team from Crocworld Conservation Centre in Scottburgh once again came to assist local residents after a 3.8m Southern African Python was spotted at Renishaw farm on the KZN South Coast. Crocworld’s Animal Curator Busani Mthiyane received the call from farm workers in the area who had noted the ‘very large snake’ on site. He and his team immediately went out to assist, quickly locating the female Southern African Python. After an initial assessment, a small wound was found and the snake was taken to Dr Jonathan Clark of Scottburgh Veterinary Clinic who sedated her, cleaned her wound and did a full health check. Crocworld Conservation Centre Manager, James Wittstock, said they initially thought the snake was gravid (pregnant) which is particularly significant as this snake species shows some maternal instinct, caring for the hatched snakes for the first couple of weeks. “She has recovered well and is now due for release this week into a suitable environment,” said Wittstock.
In addition to snake rescues and animal conservation, Crocworld is also the chosen venue for the 2024 Sappi Scottburgh MTB & Trail Run will start and finish on Sunday, 22 September 2024. Crocworld is offering a flat entry rate of R60 per person on the day, with great food and drink specials supplied by the on-site Fish Eagle Café. Fish Eagle Café has also announced a September Special of deep-fried hake fillet with tartar sauce and chips for R75 and Boujee slushes in watermelon & Malibu or lime-lemon tequila for R65.
