Attended by some of the continent’s most impactful business leaders, innovators and philanthropists, the awards recognised the incredible work being done for – and by – Africa’s people.

Speaking at the awards’ ceremony, Roberta Naicker, Managing Director for the ABN Group, noted that this wasn’t only a decade of the awards, but a notable milestone for CNBC Africa which turned 15 in June.

“This has not only been a night to acknowledge amazing leadership, it has also been a night to celebrate the CNBC Africa journey. It is a celebration of all the challenges we conquered, the happiness we have shared and a celebration of the family that we have become. A celebration of our people and a celebration of our vision. 15 years is a major milestone for any institution, as it is for any individual… Tonight, we celebrate the fact that through CNBC Africa, the African continent became part of the global financial story.”

Rakesh Wahi, CNBC Africa Co-Founder, gave insight into the establishment of the awards, explaining that they were set up more than a decade ago to honour ordinary men and women, who “despite all the challenges and disruption, have taken extraordinary decisions to lead their organisations to glory”.

“Their success is not just in profitability, but in championing transformation in all its forms, embracing change, adopting inclusivity and becoming role models to future generations of business leaders,” commented Wahi. “We are here to celebrate success and on behalf of all of you, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all our finalists tonight. They, along with our distinguished alumni, represent African leadership at its best.”
