In this article, we’ve focused mostly on large companies. While some of them work in many countries, all the companies on the list are headquartered in South Africa.
1. Vodacom Group
Bright and eye-catching, the logo looks like a button worth pressing. While the emblem is based on the two rather generic shapes – a comma and a circle – the designer has managed to create a unique and instantly memorable style.
Vodacom Group Limited is a mobile communications company with over 55 million customers.
2. Old Mutual
While placing three anchors within a single emblem can present a problem, this logo still looks sleek and contemporary. The anchors merge seamlessly to create a single flowerlike shape. Green is the color often used by companies dealing with financial services.
Established in 1845 as a mutual insurance company, Old Mutual now has more than 12 million customers.
3. Naspers
Do you know how to draw the sun in a unique way? The Naspers logo is a possible answer to this question. The unusual rays also serve as the symbol of communication, which is beneficial for telecommunication company logos.
Naspers is a multinational internet and media group based in Cape Town. Its history started in 1915.
4. Nando’s
The chicken looks bright and inviting. The red elements symbolize the famous chili pepper peri-peri and the namesake sauces, for which Nando’s is famous.
Nando’s is a restaurant chain with over 1,000 outlets in 35 countries. It was established in Johannesburg in 1987.
5. MMI Holdings
The tape featured on the MMI logo has a diverse symbolic potential. While the obvious explanation is the letters “M,” it can also represent the cardiogram (which is not bad for an insurance company) or a stock line graph. More broadly, it can be interpreted as a symbol of the investment prospects of South Africa.
MMI Holdings is a financial services group established in 2010 and headquartered in Centurion.
6. Bidvest
While using a negative arrow isn’t an innovative design approach, it’s still an effective way of representing speed and dynamism. Also, the top of the arrow is a large triangle looking like the “play” button, which, on the subconscious level, is an invitation to click the icon.
The Bidvest Group is a trading and distribution company established in 1988.
7. Nedbank Group
Basically, it’s just the letter “N.” And yet, it looks recognizable. There’s a lot of depth to the emblem and it looks as if it’s moving. The “moving” objects are good at catching your eye.
Nedbank is a financial services group with over 130 years of history. It is headquartered in Sandton.
8. Sasol
While the logo of the integrated energy and chemical company doesn’t look very unique, it’s still a decent representation of its specialization.
9. Entelect
While the emblem is just a stylized “E,” it has some dynamism and unique style. Also, the ends of the letter look like hands in the inviting, ready-to-hug gesture.
Entelect is a software engineering and solutions company based in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg.
10. Sanlam
The logo is supposed to depict a circle. In this way, it symbolizes security and care, which is good for a company providing financial services. In this case, it’s a decent design. However, you may interpret it in another, less flattering way. What about a person with her two hands raised in the air?
Sanlam is one of the country’s largest financial services groups. It’s based in Bellville, Cape Town.
